Colonial II Senior Apartments proudly stands as the first Net-Zero carbon emissions senior housing facility in New York State. In a collaborative effort with State agencies, the local housing authority, and the client, BC Energy is instrumental in the creation of an energy master plan. This plan aims to achieve zero carbon and near net-zero energy usage. Transitionally, the energy master plan suggests the adoption of geothermal-sourced high-efficiency heat pumps and a reliance on renewable solar electricity.

Moreover, the building is undergoing exterior upgrades with more efficient and cost-effective exterior windows and panels, as well as a new roof. Additionally, individual energy recovery ventilators are being installed to provide fresh air and exhaust stale air. Central heat pump hot water heaters with a recirculation loop are also part of the renovation efforts.
