PROJECT DETAILS

  • 4.6 MW Cogeneration Plant
  • 45,000 pph Heat Recovery Steam Generator
  • 225 psig Gas Compressor
  • Automatic Load Shed System

Confronted with increased power needs from a monumental expansion to the hospital – and the potential to max out the capacity of the local utility power grid – St. Joseph’s Hospital chose an onsite cogeneration plant as the solution.

With limited space on campus, finding an open site to accommodate the footprint of the plant was challenging. BC Energy’s project team literally ‘looked upwards’ to find a volume of space over existing loading docks and below a wing of patient rooms. Construction was coordinated and phased to maintain operations of the hospital.

St. Joseph’s CHP plant improves the facility’s energy reliability, reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 11,676 tons/year and lowers its utility budget by ~ $1 million annually.
