PROJECT DETAILS

  • 15 kV Switchgear

BC Energy managed the replacement of UMass Memorial Medical Center’s aging (circa-1950s) service entrance gear and antiquated controls. BC Energy engaged the local utility during the design phase to assist with the interconnection process. Various power outages were coordinated with the hospital’s staff to minimize disruptions. The new 15 kV service entrance gear is where all utility power flows to the hospital’s campus.

As a Design-Build installation, demolition was phased with loads strategically moved to a single side of the existing gear, enabling the other side to be disassembled and new gear to be installed smoothly. The phased approach was repeated on the other side, effectively transferring loads to the new gear. The hospital is now equipped with a modern, reliable system.
