PROJECT DETAILS
- Replacement of 15 kV and 480 V Transformers, Switchboards, Selector Switches, and Corresponding Wiring
- New Port Junctions
- Coordination of Overnight Shutdowns
The BC Energy team, alongside Allan Briteway Electrical Utility Contractors, Inc., completed a comprehensive replacement of Overlook Medical Center’s (OMC) electrical infrastructure. Over the course of 4 months, our teams replaced two transformers, two switchboards, two selector switches, and all corresponding wiring – all without disrupting patient care and hospital operations.
In order to replace the equipment (which was located on the second floor), several steps occurred:
- Temporary power was installed outside of the hospital.
- Cabling was pulled into the building and connected to various loads.
- An overnight shutdown was coordinated to connect the temporary power to hospital loads.
- A portion of the hospital’s wall (on the second floor) was removed.
- Our teams took apart the existing transformers, switchboards, and switches into pieces and were carried out through the wall opening.
- New 15 kV and 480V transformers, switchboards and selector switches were taken apart, brought inside through the opening and reassembled.
- All wiring of the new infrastructure was replaced, and transformer cables were reorganized and labeled.
Overlook Medical Center’s new electrical infrastructure provides the facility with enhanced maintenance capabilities and a sense of comfort knowing that the backbone of their operations is up-to-date and dependable. With the help of new port junctions, the hospital can now easily and quickly deenergize, choose a different feeder, and perform maintenance as needed.
