Atlantic Health System, whose seven hospitals serve the needs of twelve counties in New Jersey, has committed to substantially reducing its carbon emissions. Additionally, following the impacts of Superstorm Sandy, the need for resiliency in the face of widespread outages was a must.
After BC Energy successfully completed Atlantic Health System’s cogeneration plant at Morristown Medical Center, the hospital approached BC Energy to assist them again with replacing an old, obsolete trigeneration plant at Overlook Medical Center.
Challenged by the constricted plant space wedged between two hospital wings and an adjacent busy thoroughfare, the BC Energy Design-Build Team retrofitted an existing space and expanded the plant. Expected to be operational in 2025, the trigeneration plant will provide electricity, hot water, and steam for the hospital, while significantly reducing its carbon emissions.
