PROJECT DETAILS

  • 13.2 kV Switchgear
  • 480 V Switchgear

To accommodate St. Joseph’s Hospital new 4.6 MW Cogeneration plant, BC Energy replaced its existing infrastructure. A 13.2 kV switchgear and a 480 V SG was installed. Given that the hospital relied on a 50-year-old medium voltage SG and the electrical infrastructure underwent numerous undocumented changes over the decades, the upgrade was essential.

Two of St. Joseph’s Hospital’s buildings were connected to one breaker, which prompted the hospital to separate the service. Through a meticulous process of assessment, design, and “reverse engineering,” BC Energy replaced the old SG with two new sets. The new units feature 2000-amp breakers on both sides, which ensure enhanced efficiency and reliability for the hospital’s electrical system.
