In 2023, BC Energy took over management of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s physical boiler plant, which serves its main campus. With a long-term contract in place, BC Energy assessed the current operations and began a comprehensive program that has set the plant on a path for success with safety, compliance, and efficiency.

New maintenance procedures, operating procedures, 29 safety programs, an employee handbook, and an administrative program have been implemented. BC Energy is also accountable for staffing the plant, technical troubleshooting and advisement, equipment operations and maintenance, and overall plant management.

Since BC Energy took over management of the physical plant, the institute’s utility system achieved 100% reliability for both the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 heating seasons.
